Wu Tao - The Dancing Way is a therapy that uses dance, music and meditation to balance the Chi (life-force energy) in the body. Wu Tao has its foundations in oriental medicine, and is a system of healing, with a wholistic philosophy that restores balance to the person on all levels. This two-day workshop "Dancing the Elements" brings the elements of spirit and body together allowing a blissful state of oneness to arise. Based on the Oriental Medicine principle of the five elements that make up our physical universe, each dance creatively expresses one element: Air, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. Each dance works on specific meridians in the body and addresses a dominant emotional component. The air dance acknowledges grief, encouraging release and transformation. Subtle and ever so nurturing, the water dance deals with fear through surrender and acceptance. The wood dance uses the motivational power of anger to energise and strengthen. Evoking joy, the fire dance has its emphasis on cleansing and purification. Finally, the earth dance is a time for giving thanks for all that comes toward us, including the trials and challenges that help us to discover our true selves. After learning the five dance sequences, one is able to do them progressively, which offers the dancer a flowing and energizing dance experience resulting in a state of harmony, beauty and balance. The music is very diversified and corresponds to each element for which it is used. Some pieces are slow and gentle, while others are more lively and cheerful. Learning and practicing Wu Tao is an illuminating and empowering experience.
As children we dance freely, impulsively, intuitively, but as self-consciousness and inhibitions increase, many of us lose this ability. Maturing personalities and awareness of differing skill levels serve to censor and repress our dancing ways. This workshop offers you the chance to reclaim your right to express yourself through dance. Participating in the Wu Tao dances is a meditative experience. Complete focus on and immersion in the dancing way enables the mind to access a stillness and peace that many find quite challenging and elusive. From this place of wholeness, we are able to live authentically, nurtured and supported by Life.
